Door Hardware Installation

📍 Okotoks, Alberta

Door hardware installed Okotoks Alberta

Hardware installation sounds simple — it's not. A handle set and strike plate done incorrectly means a latch that doesn't catch, a door that won't stay closed, or hardware that rattles loose within months. This Okotoks project involved proper mortising for a new strike plate and doorknob installation.

What Mortising Actually Means

Mortising is the process of cutting a precise recess into the door edge or frame so that hardware sits flush with the surface. A properly mortised strike plate sits recessed into the door frame so the latch bolt engages cleanly and the plate itself doesn't protrude beyond the wood surface. When strike plates aren't properly mortised, the door doesn't close flush and the latch can miss or partially engage — meaning the door appears closed but isn't actually latched.

The Installation

The strike plate recess was cut precisely to accept the new plate flush with the frame surface. The latch assembly was verified for correct throw depth and alignment before the handle set was installed. Once the hardware was in, the door was tested for full latch engagement, smooth operation, and correct clearance throughout the swing.
